Running boards

Anyone know if the rubber "Explorer" logo inserts can safely be removed from '98 Sport tubular running boards? I've got a little surface rust starting that I want to tackle before it gets out of hand. Thanks.

Hey UncleWord and welcome to FTE! Sorry about the delay in response. If you haven't already discovered by now, they are put on with different methods. Some use glue, plastic pins, two sided tape. Best thing to do.... Get your wifes hair dryer. You don't want to use a heat gun on this type of plastic. Heat one end slowly and pry with a putty knife to see how it is fastened. I would be concerned with the pin type. They may break off and then you'll need to glue them back on. Maybe not so bad.... If your dealership can get you another set at a reasonable cost and have them to you before the next millenum, then you should be ok. Other than POR-15 rust inhibitor, there isn't anything I can recommend to you guys way up there for protection. Good luck friend... We'll talk with you later....
