Oil Additives

Hi all, one of the guys over on the 7.3 forum had a question about the ARCHOIL additive and it sparked my interest as well. I have seen many over here talk about using oil additives and with the 6.0 injection system being pretty close to the 7.3 (in my mind) I thought this would be a good place to ask.

How effective are additives like ARCHOIL and Hot Shots Secret? I have read of many guys using it to eliminate stiction. Are there other reasons for the oil additive? Does it help extend the oil life? Can anyone tell me why the 6.0 is known for stiction issues but the 7.3 is not? Would anyone see a potential benefit for running an oil additive in a 7.3 or is there enough difference in the two engines that it wouldn't be much of a benefit in the 7.3?

I realize alot of my questions are geared towards the 7.3, but it seems not many people on that forum have oil additive experience so I thought I would stop over here.

Thanks for reading, interested in your responses,

Baatzy

The 7.3 injectors are of a different design then the 6.0's. I have used archoil as I had some minor stiction happening. It did smooth things out but is more of a cover up. When I changed the oil afterwards I could tell the difference without the archoil. It did not cure it but did make things seem better while it was in the motor. I put hot shot in this oil change just to see if it would do anything before I pull the injectors and polish the spool valves. I can't say I've noticed any difference with the hot shots at all. But I am only 1000 miles in on the oil change. I have two longish highway trips planned towing some weight maybe that will help clean things up. The archoil was an almost immediate change. But it is also getting warmer and even at 10*F I have less than a second of rough idle then every thing smooths out.
