On Feb 13th I ordered approx. 500 dollars of parts from a well known parts supplier for my particular year of truck. I have called 3 or 4 times wondering where my parts were. Was told they will be shipped soon each time. Last call I made was the 17th of this month and was told they will go out today. I checked my credit card on the 18th and there was a charge on it for almost 500 dollars to this place so I thought great they are on there way. So I tore my motor apart last weekend thinking I would receive the parts early this week and I would have my truck back up and running this weekend. As of today no parts! So I call them and am told they are going out today, 8 days after my card was charged! . I think they should be shipped overnight air paid for by the supplier. What do you all think?
Seems to me the vendor's name could be attached to the rant at this point. No reason to protect them if they've misrepresented and failed to stand behind what they've told you. Others need to know to avoid similar problems. Stu
If you did not agree to the up front charge you should call your credit card company and complain about the charge. They don't like to pay vendors against "empty" invoices. That's 38 years in banking talking to you......
Despite all the parts shown in their catalog, LMC has almost none of it, as they are a middle-man operation...using the J. Paul Getty method of making a buck.
When you order parts and give them credit card info, they use your money to buy the parts elsewhere. And when this occurs, it takes time for them to acquire all the parts.
When I get my parts I will give the name. Don't want him seeing this and saying the heck with this guy and not send them. In case they did not go out yesterday as said
Where's the tracking number? As soon as it ships, they should have emailed it to you. Good luck, I just found out the three volume shop manual I ordered back in November will ship in July.
Hmmmm....sounds so painfully familiar. But as far as LMC experience so far, I ordered about 20 items from their catalog last week, got all of it in 4 days standard shipping, and it was all correct. Maybe they have some stuff on the shelf after all and I got lucky.
I just bought a crapload of parts from LMC (exhaust system, door and windshield seals, sheet metal, etc.) and I was amazed at how quickly the parts arrived via UPS. 4 days. This evening I'll know just how well the exhaust system fits- I'm encouraged though because they seem to have sent every last part (clamps, gaskets, hangers, etc.) that is required- all at what I consider to be a very reasonable price.
As an aside- I bought a used Volume 2 of the service manual from somebody on E-bay and it arrived the very next week!

It's not only LMC, couple other Ford part supplier's do same; there was a supplier out of So Cal. , friendly and great tech support but sucked when it came to filling the orders. My biggest 'rant' is when the package arrives only to find the item I needed is place on 'back order'; for example, can't very well reassemble when only receive the brake shoes and the brake cylinders are on 'back order'. Learned to contact supplier to confirm all the parts are in stock.
OK I got my parts today. As I said in my first post the supplier was a well known parts supplier for my particular year of truck (and older) Y Block powered. The supplier was Mummert Y Blocks. But all is good now, got the heads back on tonight with studs. Will do more this weekend and have it running for sure by next weekend, (I like to pace myself) and don't like mistakes. I will also add that dealings with Mummert when I first built this motor were excellent and service was fast. He did say the gasket company was holding him up.
I'm posting more because I've heard a few times the 'issues' with LMC, but I have probably spent a couple grand with them over many shipments and have always received the parts fast and in pretty good nic - with the exception of my window runs. But, even the DC replacements I ordered from DC were wanting to mess-up the same way.
Anyway, having just dealt with another very LARGE and massively popular transmission supplier who delayed a certain Mustang project 3 weeks sending wrong parts and then wrong parts again simply due to being stupid, I just felt that many close the door on a business based upon some long-ago past experience. And things might have changed since then. Maybe they are or used to be short-staffed, I don't know. But even the best companies, getting rave reviews, can be stupid on occasion. I know - when it happens 'to you' - you will tend to never give them another dime, but I know you (the new prospective buyer) will have to take in all the history - past and present - and decide from there. Personally, I would give LMC a 8 out of 10 from my experience. Docking them 2-points because I hate shipping pop-corn and that's all they use. That stuff gets into everything and goes everywhere!
Never had a problem with LMC or Carpenter except on DCs site, you'll often see "out of stock" on some items. The biggest problems I had are with Macs and never fails that something is "backordered". Each vendor has items that others don't carry, in Mac's case a parking brake cable for older Supercabs. Still waiting for that after 2 weeks.
