Anyone have experience with cooling problems with a truck this new? My 2 month old supercrew 5.0 began over heating on a road trip last week. After about 400 miles of driving I see coolant temp start climbing until the overheating warning popped up. Pulled over, turned engine off, popped the hood and did not notice any obvious signs of overheating. Ended up waiting about 15 minutes, started truck up again, temp gauge reading 1/2. Get back on the road, within 5 min temp starts climbing again, reaches ~ 3/4 then all of a sudden returns to 1/2. Continue on 10 min later temp gauge climbs from 1/2 to overheating quickly. I pulled over again same situation no obvious signs of overheating, but allow sometime to cool off. Started truck again temp gauge reads 1/2. Continue driving and temp gauge seems possessed, going from 1/2 to 3/4 back to 1/2 to almost overheating as I nursed it to the next dealer that I could find.
Dealer tech was able to mimic the problem and believes that coolant is not flowing properly. Thermostat replaced, water pump pulled and inspected, air bleed out of the system, all with no improvement. Now heads are being pulled/replaced to see if this solves the problem.
Sorry for the long post but has anyone experienced similar problems/issues?
Its depressing to have my new truck with 2,382 miles sitting under the knife at the dealer.
With the gauge jumping around as described, my first thought is problem is electrical vs. mechanical.
What I mean is that the sensors/electrical system is telling the gauge that it is running hot when it is actually running normal.

I agree!! If the gauge was pegged and accurate, that coolant would be percolating in the radiator and you would get a very strong odor in and out of the truck.

Welcome to the forum, Clifford14; I'm Crystal, the Ford Service rep here. I want to escalate this to your regional customer service manager so they can assist in getting this resolved. To make that happen, send me a private message (PM) with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.
Electrical/sensor issue was my first thought as well. I was able to speak with the dealer tech and explain the symptoms directly with them. He informed me that there were codes indicating overheating (was not given codes) but electrical did not come up. He believed that there was some restriction happening in the cooling system that was not allowing the coolant to flow.
Unfortunately I have been playing phone tag with the dealer today so I have no update on what work has been done. The truck is at a dealer ~500 mile away from home (had to make it back to work) and at this point I am not sure when it will get fixed.
Crystal, thanks is there an alternate way to contact you? I don't have PM privileges yet.

Hi Clifford14,
I can only communicate with folks via PM, but you can give my colleagues at the Customer Relationship Center a call at 1-800-392-3673. They have the same ability to assist that I do.
