Couple quick questions...
Anyway, I went to bring her home tonight after a few delays, but the rain caused a problem to pop up: The truck has been off the road 7 years, and the wiper motor is kinda buggered: It moves a little way, stops, then again- often not moving at all... I am going to pull it out & clean it: I already accessed the linkage, and hit it with some lubricant... Any ideas of things to look for?
The Temp gage is NOT responding: I had her idling for a while, and the top hose got warm(not excessively hot) so I know water was moving- but the temp gauge never came off the peg, although I should have gotten some indication. I've located the sender, it is top mounted, to the left(driver's side) of the distributor. Is it easy enough to swap without draining the system, as it looks to be?
The alternator is charging, but I am getting a spike up to about 15/16 volts at times- but it is just a rapid spike, and it does not drop below normal- about as abrupt on-off as a turn signal flasher... Sound like I might need a regulator in the alternator? Or could it be because the used battery the last owner threw in is of dubious quality?(She cranks strong, and starts easily) With the non-moving wiper motor on, the spiking is quite prominent... With all OTHER accessories & lights on, fan on high, she is fine, still occasionally spiking...
Also, I noticed the Air bypass valve on the intake at the throttle body is disconnected... I have to locate the connector, but any ideas why someone may have done this?
In any case, truck did not make it home- raining and no wipers, I decided to wait a couple days...
Just casting for some ideas... And hoping I can get a buddy to run me over to the truck & follow me home Friday...
Scott
