Strange starter question
Does anyone know if the flywheel on an 1986 2.8 lit. and a 1997.2.8 Liter the same ? If not I need to know what gear would be used on the starter for the 97. See the whole story is I bought an 86 Areostar that had a new engine (Not Rebuilt) put in it in 1998 and after 3,000 miles the van was parked until now. It was easy to see that the engine was new but the starter was original. The starter was engaging but not correctly so I had it rebuilt and now it doesn’t engage at all. I’m thinking that there is a different flywheel than in 86 so I need a different gear on the starter.
P.S. The rebuilt starter does bench test perfect, even under load.
