5 Star 6.2

2015 f-250 6.2 just installed 5 Star custom tunes. Started out with the 87 performance/tow. WOW! works great, this is how truck should have come from Ford!? Now to try the 93 performance. 5 Star is top notch, got my device in 2 days & tunes the day after that. Had to call them for a little help and they fixed me right up. GREAT company.

Any more input on your experience? I'm still on the fence.

throttle response DBW much better than stock. Shifting up and down (I think) is better. doesn't go to 5th/6th as soon as stock. tried 89 octane tune can't see much difference from 87. will try 93 later.

Cool. Throttle response alone might be worth it.

Thanks.

i run the 5 star 87 econo tune on my 2014 for the 5 years i had it. made a world of difference in throttle response and shift points.
i played with the performance and tow tunes, but stuck with the econo tune.
i did not notice any fuel mileage increase because most of the 45,000 miles were put on it under 40 mph.
would i do it again? hell yea.

Got my 5 STAR maps installed for one week now, (87 octane, tow map). So far I just have driven it around empty but can certainly tell the difference... The shifts points are much better, the throttle reaction is much better, the load normally at 80 -85% is now more like70-75%, and the throttle used to be 20-22% is now 17-20% while going down the same roads at the same speeds I usually do, probably gained about 0.5MPG on my 1/2 tank of driving so far...

Will be trying out the 87 octane economy map soon, and will come back on here to comment on it too... Also when I put my camper on the truck in a couple of months, will be back and tell my opinions on that set up too....

So far I would certainly do it again!!!

what really sold me was the loss of the dead spot/delay between throttle application and engine responding, and the trans holding engine rpms instead of dropping to idle when you let off the throttle due to earlier torque convert lockup..

I already see a change with the fuel mileage even tho it been less than a tank of gas, as my Scangauge is pretty accurate.

I got 13.5MPG stock, about 40/60 city/highway, and now have gotten
13.9 MPG 87 tow map and
14.8 MPG 87 eco map... I think the 10 speed shifting points really do matter...

Well it's been a month now, 1,492 miles with an average that went down to 13.1MPG BUT, it snowed 2'+, it went down to -35*C, so... Maybe next month the weather will co-operate and be in the normal 0*C with the snow disappearing To get a "normal" MPG average...

As for the drivability in ECO mode it's better than stock, that's for sure

EDIT; I went back to last years February's average numbers, and I drove 1,252 miles and 11.9 MPG is what I averaged. So this February's 13.1 MPG average, doesn't sound too bad at all...

Here are my thoughts on 5 Star tuning maps... Made the truck noticeably better in every way. IMO

MPG average for 2021. after break-in.
14.0 empty 2397 miles. (Best 14.2 MPG highway)
8.8 loaded 1,992 miles.

MPG average for 2022. after using EnviroSave treatment.
14.3 empty 4,742 miles. (Best 15.1 MPG highway)
9.5 loaded 4,714 miles.

MPG average for 2023. after installing 5 Star eco map
15.9 empty 6,008 miles. (Best 18.0 MPG highway) I have also put on a tonneau bed cover for airflow control...
10.8 loaded 7,380 miles, I believe the mileage would improve even more if the stock shifting pattern was improved, this loosing too much speed and trying to make it up on hills is very hard on the fuel mileage, I do believe. will come back with more loaded numbers in the next few months...

Tried out the truck in T/H mode, and, got 9.2 MPG for one fishing trip of 74 Miles... with absolutely no difference in performance (meaning eco setting is good enough power for me)... I think I will just stay in eco mode and be happy...

Seems like I got, for my "final" numbers... an average of 22% MPG improvement with the truck loaded, always exactly the same load for the last 3 years, with all the things I did...
For "empty" I got 14.03 MPG then a 15.98 MPG average, a 13.8% improvement for 3 years of almost winter like driving...

Snake-Oil... Not in my book. - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com) Here is my thread on the EviroSave treatment... As one can imagine, it went as I suspected it would go...

EDIT; I would prefer to keep this thread on topic tho, so any questions, PM me or go to that snake-oil thread please...
