my 92 runs alright... it bucks or skips alot when you let it rev up to like a shifting point but dont shift( you know what i mean i hope) and it goes up hills and all but i just wanna check my timing and all to make sure... i wanna know what degree you guys have received the best luck with... i got a 2.73 in the back so it sucks for take off but i dont have to shift for a while lol also when i first start it up cold in the morning it starts and then skips sputters and has stalled once... but if it still runs or i tap the gas it idles perfectly... any ideas??? thanks
oh yeah all this happend after i did a tune up... wires cap rotor etc... do you think that i have to recheck my spark plug gaps?
The timing is printed on the emissions sticker in the engine bay somewhere; probably on the hood in '92. That's the ONLY place you should put it, and follow the procedure EXACTLY.
yeah i already did that went through that the plugs are in the proper order and places it runs perfect unless say i rev it up to 2500 but dont shift like just stay at that speed like going down my driveway for instance... but it hasnt been doing it latly it seems to me that it DOES NOT like 87 octane 89 and up the thing purrs like a kitten and is faster than superman.. lol ill keep my eyes on it..
Hve you changed the fuel filter? The sypmtoms you describe are typical for a plugged filter.
FWIW, my truck seems to make best power at about 14 degrees. but pings when pulling my boat in very hot weather. At 12 degrees it doesn't ping, but makes about 10 ft-lbs less torque across the board, which isn't enough to feel but shows up on the dyno.
yeah brand new fuel filter... um... i already ran injector cleaner and there is the usual lifter tap that all sixes have...oh and i have speed density not mass air...
go back and make sure your plugs are all gapped correctly. New plugs just get bent when in their boxes. Sometimes you'll find that the bar is touching the electrode (that doesn't make a very good spark, huh?)
Maybe one of the wires is busted, or possibly a plug is loose.
My truck is actually doing the same thing, not too bad though. I have to go and check the sparks, but i'm really lazy.
Hi steve83, the emisions sticker picture yo send looks like mine, but mine is almost erased, can you send me a hi resolution picture to javi200@cantv.net ?, so I can print and save it to my maintenance record book.

You can download the original image directly from my SuperFord album - just click my signature and look in the "Diagrams" album, and look for the closest one to what you have. The one I posted above is from a '96 MAF OBD-II 4.9L F-150, so it's probably significantly different from yours.
