I have a knocking sound in my l front end but only at slow speeds I do not have a clue. This is getting worse I have had all work done by ford but now I just need real good advice on what do I need to stop this. I got to do it myself as ford cost too much Please anyone with a idea I will be grateful. Cheers Sam
Can you explain the noise you are hearing any more? Does it occur while driving straight? Turning left or right? In 4x4 or 2x4 or both? While hitting bumps/cracks in the road? What is "low speed" under 30mph, under 15mph?
What work has Ford done to it?
This will give us a better idea of what may be going on. There are all kinds of things up front that could make noise. When you get back to us with that information we'll have some better ideas for you, until then it would just be spitballing, which it sounds like you are tired of.
The sound is when i'm doing 15k or less only after driving for 1/2 hr. or more but is there after the system is warm only It happens in drive never checked it in 4by4 but will if you want but if i'm turning left or right its there If I push my break its there my truck run's totally straight if breaks are on or off I had ford redo the front suspension they did breaks and new axel seals. I don't have any type of pulling if I punch it or it I hit the break. But the sound will not stop I thought about the break system but it works so good I think there is no hesitation I only have certified ford or cal tire work on my truck but I cant afford them anymore. I some times think I feel the thud thud thud. but its very clear you can here it in truck or on road
So the truck has to be warm for the issue to occur? That's interesting....
Between that info and the fact that Ford redid the front suspension my idea is probably out the door. However if its been awhile since the work was done, its not absurd to think something went bad.
I was thinking something on the front axle, specifically the u-joints.
You can check it in 4x4 but I don't think it will change anything.
Does the sound remain when you come to a complete stop? Does it change it speed or intensity with ground speed? Does the sound occur in any gear other than drive?
I will have to do some more thinking on this, others with much more knowledge will stop by before long as well I'm sure.
