Hey guys- you may recall my recent thread from last week where we diagnosed that my HPOP is going south on me. Well, I'm gathering the parts to get this done by my go-to 6.0 guy later this week and wanted to ask about the IPR. As we all know, these are a bear to get to so I'm wondering if I need to capitalize on having easy access to it and maybe replace it "while we're in there".
Normally in a case like this I wouldn't think twice about replacing parts like this "just because", but money is tight these days thanks to a never-ending divorce so I really can't swing buying parts I really don't need. From what we saw in my Insight PIDs, the IPR seems to be working fine. Also, it was replaced by me in late 2011- AFTER I "Bulletproofed" the truck earlier that year which gave me the beefy Bulletproofdiesel.com HPOP screen. When I replaced the original IPR it was for the known surging issue and the screen on that one was caved in (I'm assuming due to the failed nylon HPOP screen we found during the Bulletproof install). My case for not changing this IPR is based upon seeing good numbers on the Insight and the knowledge that the current part was not subjected to a torn HPOP screen.
So, with the knowledge of the group here do you think I can be relatively safe by not changing this IPR "just because"? Unless of course a torn screen is found during HPOP install. On the other hand, I will be installing a new ICP sensor because I did notice mine is leaking externally.
As always, I appreciate the advice given here. This repair is coming at a really bad time for me, but I love my truck and look forward to this new HPOP giving me renewed performance and longevity. I've owned this thing since new and plan on keeping it for many more years.
While the IPR is a pain to change it can be changed without removeing anything.
At several hundred for a OEM IPR I am unwilling to spend that mans money on a maybee
he changed it not long ago. They do not fail that often.
Thanks guys- I think I am going to skip it. Mine seems to be fine, and I'll just fight it off later if it fails. I looked around for a deal on one and the best price I could find is about $150. I just don't need to spend that money right now.
As long as when you pull the connector there is no oil in the connector and the screen is intact upon removal. I would see no reason to spend the extra money. That and the turbo comes off in about 20 min so it's not that bad to do if a guy didn't want to mess with the reach around method. That and the fact it's really not that old.
You might pull it off just to take a look at the condition of the screen, make sure it's clean and/or not damaged, but I agree with others about not replacing it unless you have to.
