Need help identifying some under truck electronic modules
On my recently purchased used 2009 SD I found the spare tire special lock thing was giving me heck in trying to remove the spare tire. I decided to pull the darn thing out so it would not cause me a headache again.
While I had the spare out, I noticed on the driver's side there are two modules mounted above the spare tire area on the crossmember. One is small (maybe 2"x5".), has one connector and is mounted vertically, and the other is large, looks plastic (8"x8"x4" tall), and has multiple connectors going to it (some electrical, others look like tubes/pipes). They both are mounted on the top surfaces of the crossmember so I would assume to protect them a little from road stuff thrown up while driving.
Can someone tell me what these are for future reference?
Thanks in advance, Tom.
After some research, then digging into connector component locations it looks like the small module is the "Fuel Pump Driver Module" (FPDM) and the large one is the "Evap Canister" for the fuel tank.
I going to look up under there again for access to the FPDM. I read where these things gave some problems on the F150 because of corrosion, but did not read anything that said this was a common problem on SuperDuty.
Hopefully it will be an easy change if ever needed.
