Tail Pipe Location

I am going to get a Flowmaster system on my 2000 F150 4.6l and I have the option of where the tailpipes should come out. I know the benefits of having the tailpipes skewed at the rear bumper to avoid exhaust on anything that I tow. My question is this: If I remember correctly, the first year the F150 came out the tailpipe came out in front of the rear passenger wheel. Ford said it was to prevent tailpipe damage when backing up. Subsequent years they have the tailpipe in the standard location. Could I get the tailpipes (given enough room to get a good bend in the exhaust) to come out on both sides in front of the wheel? I would think this would help when backing up and possibly when coming out of a steep descent while offroad. Also, any experiences you have had with the straight pipe or skewed pipe with Flowmaster would be appreciated.

Having the exhaust come out before the rear wheels may cause unwanted resonation in the cab. To have the exhaust come out there they have to locate the muffler closer to the front of the truck plus all of the exhaust noise will be heard in the cab. If you retain all of your cats, then it may not be too bad. I had this done on my 94 and the noise in the cab was awful at highway speeds. Around town it was sweet, but almost deafening on the highway. Enjoy your ne exhaust.
