My X has had a vibration in the drive train since I bought it. I have been through 3 sets of tires and a new rear end with no significant change.
I recently replaced the u-joints, and the vibration changed. Instead of being pronounced upon deceleration, the vibration was somewhat lessened, and only occurred around 55 mph when the truck was neither accelerating or decelerating; when the throttle and speed were at an equilibrium. It was reduced further when I reduced the air pressure in the tires. It is reduced, but is still there.
I would like to get this fixed before my spring break trip.
Have you had the rear driveshaft balanced? I recently had similar issues, vibration near 65 mph, present whether on or off throttle. All u-joints were in good shape, same with CV assembly. From Ford there was run out at the tube to CV and balance was way off. Getting it balanced eliminated my vibe, no u-joints or other parts replaced.
Not yet. I was hoping the U joints would cure it. With my mileage, I'm sure I needed them anyway. I thought that would be my next step but I wasn't sure.

My pickup does the same thing @ 55 mph. When I had the tranny worked on they replaced the u-joints and it cured it for awhile but it came back....It's not a major vibration but definitely in the drive train
Around here all the mechanics send the driveshaft to Republic Diesel. I think I'm going to call to see if I can just drop the truck off there instead of paying someone to take the driveshaft over there.

One of my wheels is bent just a little and shows up at speed.
Have you checked the fit of the slip joint? The male portion of mine was worn, female portion was okay. That's what was causing the vibration on my Ex. Replaced male spline with Spicer part. Rubber boot deteriorated causing the failure, had new rubber boot and grease zerk installed on slip joint when I had the driveshaft rebuilt.
