Ok.so I did a search and found a few things on this subject.I changed out the worn out ball joint on my 2000 ex.it seems to still drift and woander.especially when applying the brakes at higher speeds.what else could this be? Thanks for any help.
Check out our Excursion Forum Tech Folder, the section on steering would be good to read thru. Other reasons are worn tie rod ends, loose steering box (easy to adjust and will solve 1/2 the issue IMO).
You'll have to research these some cause its not something I can put in a single post or link.
Alignment
uneven tire pressure--this is a biggy
steering box
tie rod ends
Pitman arm
Front anti sway bar bushings and end links
Rear steer and spring wrap--see Landyot article in tech folder
Spring problems--see changing from X springs to F 250 springs
Sticking caliper or other brake problem if pulling on braking I would definitely check these first. I had a caliper sieze one time--it was exciting to brake.
I assume when you said "ball joint" you meant "joints"
Make sure both hubs are locked or unlocked
I'm sure there are others but that will get you started.
