Original parts catalogue I have lists the D version for 6 cyl 240, 300. F version is for 8cyl 352 which I have. Can't find the F version.

the -D version was also used on Mustangs. Have you searched for the -F in other crossovers?
Is this a strict restoration or what?

It's not a strict resto.
The picture below compares the D version to the one off of my '67.
The one off of my truck has the p/n as seen in the picture. Not sure if it's OE.
Here's a picture of the parts catalog.
As you see, the two valves are plumbed differently. I'm not sure what the difference is between the D and F versions.

C6AZ-9B289-C (replaced C6AZ-9B289-A & F and C6OZ-9B289-A) .. Anti Backfire Valve / Obsolete
Applications: 1966/67 F100 352 // 1966 Galaxie/LTD 289/352 // 1966 Fairlane/Falcon/Mustang 289 // 1966/67 Galaxie/LTD/Fairlane/Thunderbird 390/428 // 1967 Mustang/Cougar 390/428
NOTE: That is not a part number stamped on the original valve. It's the valve's ID Engineering Number which will not match any part number.
All I can make out in the pic is its prefix which is C6AE .. The rest of the number I cannot see, post what it is.
