I have a problem with a truck that were trying to fix, we have replaced the modulex2 , distributor X4 , the cap x2 and traced out wiring. still we have no spark to #5 anyone have any ideas ?
If the spark plug, the dist/cap/rotor/PIP/TFI, wiring, and plug wires are all good, then you would have spark to #5 just like all the others. What happens if you pull the #5 plug, hook it back onto its wire, lay it on the block, and start the engine? What does the reluctor under the distributor rotor look like? Is it missing a tooth?
the distributor has been replaced 4 times an yes i have checked for spark at the wire and yes the spark plugs have been replaced
I told you this is the wierdest problem,, i cant figure it out there is still no spark at number 5
I know just enough to be dangerous, and you don't know how dangerous, but I do have 13 years of experience in electronics, where they teach you to troubleshoot in the "half" method. Sometimes by cutting a circuit in half and checking for what is expected you can determine which way to go. On my '84, I can pull the distributor up enough to disengage it from the cam and oil pump and with the key on and cap off I can turn the rotor and listen for the snap of the arc when the magnetic piece is by the transformer. This might tell you whether to go back towards the module, i.e. coil and wiring, or towards the plug, i.e. plug wire and etc. Don't know if this helps at all. Sounds like a really goofy problem and those are the ones that usually cause you to slap yourself in the forehead. Later
guess what it is fixed there was a wire that had been broken in the ignition causeing the problem... its back up and running !
thanks to all who tryed to help me out!~
