overheating problem, newbie, please help

I have a 93 Ford Ranger Splash, 3.0 V6, coolant almost boiling in resovoir. Temp guage doesnt move at all. Any suggestions? I have a thermostat but I think it may be the sending unit. Where is the sending unit and is it easy to change? I really don't know much about repairing vehicles at all so I would really appreciate any and all replies. Thanks a lot.

when I touch the top radiator hose, nit's pretty freakin hot, I meean, I can touch it, but it's really hot

Sounds like your thermostat is toast. It is possible that your sending unit is bad or the gauge is. I would replace your thermostat first and see if that cools off the truck. Then go after the sending unit so you will be able to moniter your engine temp.

Sending units are easy to change. I don't have the location of it for your truck but someone else may know. Those are the easy fixes, the gauge in your dash will require a little more work.
