Radiator Question

Ok I now have the dreaded leaking radiator on my 2011. I am wondering how the aftermarket radiators are holding up? I was talking with my local radiator repair shop and they have been repairing the oe radiator with good results. They also claim that they have repaired some aftermarket radiators. He did not mention any brand names so I can not make any claims against them. I am considering a mishimoto replacement. Has anyone had any problems with them?

Sorry to hear about your radiator leak! Interesting that you have a local radiator shop, those are hard to come by these days. Might be worth getting a quote from them regarding repair and weighing the cost of upgrading to our aluminum unit. How many miles are on your stocker? I would also keep that in mind based on the frequency of failure for the Powerstroke radiators. We have had numerous customers install the 6.7L radiator and they all seem very pleased with the quality. Let me know if I can answer any questions about our radiator!

take my advise get one from them^^ i have one installed.i started a thread search mishimoto radiator install you can see some pictures of what it took to install on your truck. do not waste your money on another stock rad or have it repaired. do it once and be done with it so you can have confidence you can drive your truck anywhere, anytime with out worry your going to be stranded because of a leaking rad. the mishimotos haven't been out that long to where some repair shop has fix one of theres for our trucks. mines been on since 10/17/14 with zero issues https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...installed.html I'm in no way affiliated with them

Just installed a Mishimoto radiator in one of our work trucks two days ago. Mishimoto has a wonderful you tube video that covers everything to change one out.

I kind of think that I will probably just do the mishimoto. This way I have everything to do the job all at once. The radiator shop says he needs a couple of days to repair the old one. He also is interested in my old radiator if I do replace it.

A radiator repair shop will still not fix the issue. The plastic caps that are crimped on the ends.

From what I have seen, the plastic tanks are not the issue. I have seen three radiators go bad and every one was where the core tubes are attached to the end plate, in the center row of tubes.

The repair shop did say that they can repair the plastic end caps. He claimed that he has seen the gaskets go bad and they can replace them. This shop does heavy truck radiator repair and does have the equipment to repair the core leak. he said that the core tubes leak at the side plate because they are pressed into place. The flex of the frame loosens the seal and that starts the leak.

that statement alone is enough to prove you need something other than the factory unit. if the flex caused the leak it will only happen again.

That is why I am considering the mishimoto. The shop did tell me that normal is they start leaking in the driver side lower corner. He has seen leaks at all 4 corners but that was in a truck that had seen a lot of off road use and extreme flex. The shop does solder all of the tubes in place and he claims that has solved the issue. He has seen a couple of them come back with leaks but those were before he started soldering all of the tubes in place.

Generally between $75 - $100. I have to pull the radiator myself and he said it takes 2 days to complete. Sounds reasonable enough but I have to tie up my truck for that amount of time.

Does he guarantee the work? $75- $100 sounds like I might take that chance...

This leaking rad problem is one of the reasons I bought the extended warranty. If my rad leaks I more than paid for the entire policy... Usually I don't buy an extended warranty and need it and if I do buy it I never use it...

Went with dad when he went to pick up his Chev 3500. He bought it used, it was just over 12 mo old and out of warranty.

On the way home it over heated...leaking radiator. We had pulled over just across from a service station and dad send me over to see if they have a can for water. They do, I bring back in a 2.5 gal can.

Dad has out his knife and is whittling on a branch of Texas Mesquite. He stuffs it in the hole, we fill up with water and are on our way.

On occasion that piece of Texas Mesquite would rot out, who ever was driving me or dad we just replaced it. Sold that truck in '77, still with a piece of Mesquite in it, told the guy who bought about it and told him it takes 4 or 5 years or so for the Mesquite to rot.

Truck went almost 24 years like that.

Anyhow if you don't have any Texas Mesquite in your neck of the woods, I hear the mishimoto makes a good replacement
