Wife told me when i got home for work that the rear passenger door would not open. It also happens to be on the side that we have the child lock set. So you cannot open it from the outside or inside. When i pull on the outside handle the resistance is lighter than the working side. It still has the spring but the cable/rod is not actuating. Looking at the working door, i figured i could get a thin flathead screwdriver between the door seals and around the rubber stop to push the child lock down. I ended up using a marshmallow skewer (because the screwdriver i had was about 1/2 inch too short) to disable the child lock from the inside. Seemed like a cool trick, great so now the inside door opens. how do i fix the exterior pull? all the instructions and videos i found were for older (different handles)

any help?

The inside handle is cable operated.
I remember that from when I replaced the power window mechanism in a front door.

The outside handle too could be cable operated.
Get the door panel off and have a look inside... thats the only way to see whats going on in there

 

so its a broken rod clip. the piece that sandwiches the door latch mechanism to the handle pull. I cant figure out how to attach the two back together. any write ups on this? my arm cannot reach either of the parts to push the new part on. am i supposed to remove the door handle or child lock to gain access?

 

well, i finally got the clip replaced. was a pain because my arm could not fit. I ended up getting my son to help clip it on and its working great. wish i could have taken a photo but i could barely see anything as it was.
