We have a 460 in our dragster. We were running a magneto but had heaps of trouble with it so we opted for an electronic dizzy instead. We are using the std distributor that came with the motor. The trouble we are having is that we have just purchased a PC6AL ignition module to upgrade from the std one. The PC standing for ProComp electronics. Our dizzy has three wires hanging out of it and the module only has two wires that feed into the dizzy. What goes where and is it the right module type?
Also has anyone had problems with broken collets on std heads with std rockers?
My apology, different terminology. I've always called them locks or keepers. I've never broken one. What valve train are you using, rail rockers, pedestal mounted or roller rockers?
I don't know what distributor you're using, but it sounds like the spare wire would be the ground wire with the other two connecting to your module.
Sounds like a Duraspark II dizzy, which is magnetic pickup just like an MSD. I'm looking at the instructions that came with my 7AL2. How many connections are on your spark box?
Well we have a std module, I'm told is a Duraspark, which connects up fine with the dizzy. It has three wires going to the dizzy. Orange, White and Black from memory We have just purchased this multi spark module which only has a red + wire and a black - wire to go to the dizzy. The multispark box is a Procomp Electronics 6AL
If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the link I sent you it shows you that you only use two of the three wires from the dizzy. (+) to Orange and (-) to the other color(should be purple). Black / ground isn't used. But that is to use your 6AL ignition system as a stand alone vise a secondary to the original module.
I wired in the msd as airharley stated. used the ford dist and removed the dura spark ignition and wiring. much nicer and neater in the engine compartment now. just make sure you have a good ground for the msd.
