vacuum tree getting coolant

Ok, I've got white smoke from the exhaust of my 2004 4.6 expy. I thought it was a head gasket, but when disassembling I pulled the vacuum line off the vertical fitting on the front of the intake manifold and coolant poured out. the hose runs from there to the vacuum tree on the back of the throttle body. What stops the vacuum system from sucking coolant and getting white smoke that way? Should there be coolant in the vacuum line?

There's a good chance it's the intake manifold gasket needing to be replaced.

Good thing my kit came with all the manifold gaskets, too! I will check compression when I get more pieces off to see if I can be sure it's not the head gasket.

Upon closer inspection, I see that the coolant lines just run to a collar around one vacuum line, it's not a tree.
