Knock Sensor

Why doesn't my '92 F-350 460 have a knock sensor?
Are those only on MAF engines?
How does my engine prevent knocking..(it doesn't) I'm just asking.

Thanks guys!

I believe that only the 5.0 with MAF has a knock sensor.

Most people want to work a stock 5.0 like a 4.9, 5.8, or 7.5. And it doesn't happen that way.

4.9's had them, but I believe that was due to the EGR system in place. If it doesn't function correctly on the 4.9, you get some ping.

I'm just shooting blindly on the work part. But I think most wanted to work the 5.0 like it the other grunt trucks of this vintage.

It's anybody's guess why Ford didn't put a knock sensor on all these engines, there are lots of other little differences that defy logic too so who knows.. maybe it's just the result of a very large company with many different people designing these systems for each engine family.

This......

It is apparent that even between truck families F150/Bronco vs. F250/350 the powertrain control/emission system is VERY different.
