Help! Dead Excursion (no interior electrical)
Long Story short...2000 Excursion (V10)...wouldn't start a week-or-so ago. No crank, no nothing. Used a jumper across the fender-mounted relay/solenoid...fired right up.
Must be a bad relay/solenoid...go to replace it. Of course the local auto store only has the "newer" 4 post models...no matter, should work just fine. Install it according to directions/install manual (which posts to use etc..)... doesn't start.
Take a second look at the wiring....while doing so, battery lead to solenoid slips across to other relay post...and makes me drop a little poo in my pants as the truck starts to turn over (i know, should have disconnected battery).
Get frustrated, think maybe the solenoid is fine, and there was an issue with the switch signal to the solenoid...maybe ignition is shorting...maybe neutral switch is bad (the way the shifter feels it wouldn't be a suprise).
Put original solenoid/relay back in...to trouble shoot. I now have no power, anywhere. I can short the battery to the starter and turn truck over, but other than that, nothing. No dome lights, no instruments, no headlights, not a thing in the interior.
I've run through every fuse i could find (under steering column, and in power box under hood) but everything looks good. Some wires that connected to relay had a fuseable link....that looks good too.
It's like i've killed a major circuit, but just can't find it. Any suggestions where to look next?
