Post Turboed?

Ok. so i have this 1989 ford bronco and i am wanting to basically turn it into this eco-boost if you will. Givin the fact that it is fuel injected 5.0 does anyone think this can be done or has this even been done?

Im looking for options and disadvantages to doing this. Not looking for power but looking for the fuel economny in it. What sized of turbo should i use?, should i do a single turbo or do a dual turbo?, what would be the best way to route the intake pipes, Would the butterfly valve on the throttle body pose an issue to the intake pipes? Would i have to upgrade anything else to compensate for the turbos? IE, injectors, head studs, fuel system, intake gaskets?

let me know anything and ideas would be appreciated.

$$$$$ , do you have the wrenching skills to pull something like this off or would you have a shop do it?

first the EFI system would need to be upgraded/swapped to something programmable and MASS-AIR. after that you can pretty much mimic what the mustang guys do with their turbod 5.0's. don't expect to get the same ecoboost results with a boosted V8

Once you start adding boost to any engine not designed for it you are looking at upgrading everything. Pistons, rods, crankshaft etc. etc. etc. If mileage is what you are looking for find a bronco with a fuel injected 300. Plenty of power and mpg's to go along with it.

Of course I have the mechanics to do something like this. Im not stupid. Now what do you mean by mass air? Are you saying I need a mass air sensor? Money is not an issue. I dont and am not looking to replicate what mustangs guys do. I want to do this to increase my fuel economy. Dont give a rats *** bout power. Im not wanting to swap the engine because of the over all value of the vehicle its self. So again I need to know if the butterfly throttle could pose an issue in wanting to do something like this or would it be ok? Would I have to modify that or has no one in this forum done anything like this?

Sorry, but you may not be stupid, but you are lacking in some of the basics of internal combustion gasoline engines. If you want MPGs, leave it alone and drive slower.

A turbo pushing more air into the engine will require more fuel to go with the air. How, pray tell, does that improve mpg, all else remaining the same?

Eco-boost "theory" is to use a smaller engine, enough to cruise or idle around with. The turbo adds power when needed.

In your case, you are running the same motor, just adding power when the turbo spools up. You will use more fuel in almost all driving situations.
