need a lil help please

hey guys have a question, Today my 2001 ford range edge starting running funny. When in park it idles around 3k rpm and then when driving it feels like it wont shift past 2nd because it is around 4k rpm around 50mph and I'm afraid to go to any higher speed for fear of damaging the engine. If any of you have any experience with this issue please help. Im currently at work so im unable to really get under the hood atm. thanks for all of your help.

Usually a high idle is either an IAC acting up or a large vacuum leak. Shifting can be effected get the idle fixed and go from there.

Welcome to FTE.
^+1 on wtrogers ideas.
Have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Most autoparts stores will do it at no cost if the CEL is lit, some will do it if we're having problems without a lit CEL. Post All code Numbers as they can provide good trouble shooting clues.
Did the problem come about suddenly after some event????
