New to this but need some help. I have a 2005 excursion with about 112,000 miles and last week all 5 doors decided to stop working on me when trying to lock or unlock with the remote or the door switch. I do hear a sound like something is happening just right of the fuse box. I did a little research and found that this is a wide spread problem. I did order 4 of the 5 actuators and I replaced the drivers door but nothing yet. Do they all have to be replaced in order to work? Or is it most likely something else causing this? Just trying to figure it out before I instal the other actuators or take it in to a shop. Thanks!
Sorry to say you might have to take it to a shop. Find one that can get on the Ford communication network in the truck. I did some research on this for a friend, he has a 2005 pickup with the same problem. In his case and maybe yours too, the VSM(vehicle security module) seemed to be the suspect. This has the door lock system in it. In his case his running lights quit working at the same time. I thought that would be a separate problem till I found out his autolamp feature is also located in the VSM. His lights work fine in manual, but in autolamp mode the running lights don't work.
These vehicles are getting too complicated to work on by a homeowner. We have powerful computers and cell phones, powerful enough to do the job, but it's the politics and the car manufacturers trying to keep everything to themselves that is the problem. I think the few people that do want to mess with this kind of stuff themselves would not hurt their bottom line that much.
