I have a 95 Ford Ranger STX 4.0L ext cab with SOTF 4X4 ...
When I engage the 4X4, it seems to work fine, but when I go 40MPH+, the steering becomes almost uncontrolable. The truck 'pulses' to the left and makes driving in a straight line pretty tough. Also, every now and then, a very hard and loud vibrating noise will come from the front end, slowing the truck down. And to top it off, the 4X4 will not disengage! The only way I can get it out of 4X4 is by slowing down, and turning a sharp corner after I turn the switch back to 2X4. I just had a $1400 job done on the 4X4 about a year and a half ago. Whats wrong with my truck!?
When there is ice and 6" snow on the street, ya It went out while I was ice fishing a year and a half back. Anyways, should I just take the whole hub assembly apart and lube it up and look for suspicious or bad parts? Could it be something else?
could be wheel bearings or cv joints. My roomate's exploder has a similar problem so he just doesn't drive it fast in 4x4. Would get it fixed but that takes ca$h and college students don't usually have much.
