Who makes good replacement front leafs that arent crazy expensive?
Any good heavy duty replacement leafs I should look into? Also do they bolt into hangers that are welded onto the truck or are they the standard pop riveted on hangers? Considering I've never seen the truck should I buy new hangers as well?
This is where I bought <table align="right" class="vi-VR-marTop5 "><tbody><tr><td>

1999-2004 Ford Pickup Front Leaf Spring (2 Leaves)
Seller : sdtrucksprings
And they have bin grate. I hope link works if not I will retry.
The door jamb sticker will have a spring code- that's the way to order new ones... it may say vb or xc or similar. I would go with stock springs; sd truck springs has a pretty bad rep if you look around.
Thanks for the link it worked. I have a question. I'm looking at my door jamb.
For my front GAWR it says 5200 pounds.
Does this mean that each spring should have a rating of 5200 pounds or does this mean that each spring should have at least half of that if not more?
Those are the V code springs that come with the diesel. Each spring pack is rated for 5200lbs so you get 10,400lbs overall up front between the two sides (which is far more than the front axle is rated for).
The only place I have gotten replacement springs from is my local dealership. I have read good things about Deaver springs but do not know anyone who has them.
On the truck the spring code is "VC". I found a spring code online but it's listed for just a "V" code. What's the differrence? There's two leaves in the pack and they're $180 each.
I cant speak for any one else but my experience with sd truck springs was grate and the springs have held up grate on dirt roads that I live on. And they have 40k on them. thicker then oem and just as good of ride.
If you need replacement V codes or basically any other front springs let me know, I can supply you with new springs and hardware for a discounted price because you're a forum member.
Genuine 'V' or 'X' code springs can only be obtained from Ford. Aftermarket springs are not the same and will not have the same spring ratings. I have what are called 'X' spring aftermarkets but they do not have the same rating as Ford's 'X' springs do. These are the common 43-818 spring and I am happy with them. I got my rear springs from ATS and I am very happy with the springs and that company. You tell them what you want your truck to do and they will fit you a spring to match those needs. They will also be able to tell you what you need for shackles, bolts, etc.
What is the correct way to remove the front eye leaf spring bolt? There's like NO clearance up there.
Even if I get the nut off I don't think there's enough room to slide the bolt out the back side without hitting something.
The only way to do it is remove the radiator mount. Be careful, though, as the radiator will want to move unless you support it yourself. There's no other way the bolt will come out (or go in). The radiator sits in place and the two bottom mounts are all that holds it in place.
The mounts are also a PITA to put back on as there's very liitle room to maneuver. Whatever you do DO NOT remove both lower radiator supports at the same time as your radiator will not be supported.
That's what i did. Ordered springs from Junior at ATS. Paid him at 330pm Thursday, springs were at my house by noon Friday. Would buy springs from him again without even thinking twice about it.
After googling around and reading a bunch of threads i realized that most people take the front bumper off. I figured it was going to be a bunch of bolts holding it on. Turns out it was only 6 and the whole thing came off. Was totally straight forward after that.
To deal with the bolt being too long to get by the radiator mount i just pushed it out as far as i could, cut the bolt with an angle grinder, then air hammered the rest of the bolt out. Put the new bolt in with the nut facing the radiator support and that whole situation was dealt with.
Trucks all back together again and riding smooth. After driving this thing around for the night it totally makes me want to go buy one. They're awesome.
