I have a 94 lighting w/KB 10psi supercharger, bassni etc. recently after the truck warms up idle and fuel are erratic. I can smell fuel at idle while rpm swing wildly. some 5 0 types told me to look at the thick film intergrated module. What does this thing do anyway? well any input would be helpful. Ford dealer parts didn't know what I was talking about.
Just tell the parts guy (either local store or dealer you need a ignition module. they'll get what you mean.
BUT, I don't think that is your problem.
Please post more specific info on your problem, then we can look into it a little further.
what does it idle at? RPM? Hot or Cold? how wild is the rough idle? 100rpm 300rpm or more up and down.
If rpm swing at idle is more than 500 rpm, and you smell fuel, you may have a bad map sensor, or a big vacuum leak.
Check the exhuast, see any black smoke? if you do, ckeck the vacuum hose to the MAP sensor, cracked, disconnected, plugged? if not, I would replace it.
The TFI modules tend to have more problems when they are older and give out because of over heating, but yours has the module on the fender not on the dizzy, so I don't see that as a problem.
post some more info, and we'll help you diagnois your engine,
Oh if you havn't done this already, run down to autozone and have them pull the codes, or do it yourself.
yes there is black smoke, idle goes from 500 to 1000 rpm I replaced the ignition module on inside of fender didn't work, codes don't show a problem and maybe there is a heat problem or use because of the headers and in my owners book it states I have a fuse for the TFI but parts don't know what I'm talking about it's about a 20 amp fuse. does this TFI connect to the TB. Oh one other thing, if I let it cool off it will run great sometimes the check engine light will go on after the rpm swing corrects but the trans shifts very hard, then everything works great.
Thanks for the input
