I have been smelling raw fuel for about a week. A little fuel in valley and my wif / fuel heater connector was pretty wet. I pulled it to find this:

Local auto parts stores want $150 for this part. Diesel o rings wants $90. This price seems rather absurd for what it is.

I guess my question is what caused this? A bad fuel heater , old age or something else.

I agree everything is outrageously priced for these Trucks. I have not seen one leak prior to yours.

It looks like the connector corroded and caused the plastic to split. My fuel heater has a resistance of ~1.5 ohms, so I think it is OK. I think I will leave it unplugged since rumor has it, that it is worthless.

I ordered the part from Bob at diesel orings. Hopefully the leak does not get worse before the part gets here. My thanks goes out to Bob for taking my call and shipping my order today.

If you don't want to spend the money, have you thought about cutting a piece of metal and just make a block off plate? If you've got the capability to cut the steel, drill the bolt holes, use some permatex, and seal it off for good.

Otherwise, maybe coat the outside of the plastic housing with epoxy and then use permatex to seal it back to the fuel bowl.

Both options of course assume you don't care about the fuel bowl heater ever working again. The other side of the coin is, what is the $90 part worth if you get stranded on the side of the road and have to call a tow and are shut down until you get a new part?
