Ford 460 problem

I'm trying to narrow down a couple of problems on my 460 engine in my 1966 F250. Back in the summer a bolt broke in the distributor and engine backfired through the edelbrock carb. The bolt in distributor was replaced and timing reset and all intake carb gaskets replaced. The truck seems to try to flood at times going down the road and will go dead but restart immediately after. It idles rough at startup and does not want to go dead after turning the engine off. Could it be a edelbrock carb power valve issue maybe? Any help appreciated!

One more issue it has is it is hard for the starter to turn the engine over once it's gets hot. I have replaced the starter solenoid and it helped some but it hasn't solved the problem. Any help would be appreciated!

Edelbrocks don't have power valves to blow.

What bolt?

Describe the starting issue when hot, just slow, or romp stop?

What makes you say it seems to flood?

The bolt that connected the bottom of the distributor shaft to the oil pump broke off and was removed and replaced.
I didn't know that edelbrock didn't have a power valve. After the truck just goes dead all at once going down the road I smell gas for just a few seconds. After a couple of minutes it will restart and runs without any problems.
The starter is the womp, womp slow turnover after it gets hot.

You mean the hex oil pump drive shaft?

Sounds more like an ignition issue, smelling unburnt fuel from the exhaust.

womp womp after what has been done sounds more like the timing is too advanced during cranking, retard the timing an see what happens.

What are the settings?

Yes it was the hex shaft.

If it is a ignition issue what would you suggest to correct the problem?

I'll have someone check the timing on the engine for the starter

The engine doesn't want to die either after you cut the ignition off.

A mechanic of some sort is doing the work not you? What has he said?

That is called dieseling it's a symptom of a larger issue. Best guess your mechanic is retarded, how skilled are you?

Edit
BTW, a 460 in a 66 is of course not stock, tell me about the truck.

I'm very basic in my mechanic abilities. I can change oil, belts filters but that's about it. Mechanic said he thinks engine is flooding.

Well do you want to do more yourself or just help dealing with mechanics?

It's a 1966 Ford F-250 with a 1974 Ford T-bird 460 engine and a C6 transmission. I just had it machined and rebuilt. It has a edelbrock 750 4bbl card.

I would appreciate help dealing with the mechanics. How would dieseling be corrected? Thanks!

I found this....

You did all this or had it done?

The rebuild, before or after this?
