Does anyone know if any of the left five graphics (fuel door, oil, temp, batt, fuel level) ever illuminate for a '95 F-150?
The previous owner had a new instrument cluster installed because the PSOM/spedometer was malfunctioning. Since I have owned it, I have never seen any of these items lit up (not even the fuel door open or the fuel gauge when the tank was emptied).
Just wondering...maybe they did not connect everything?
The needles are lit and the guage ranges (E, F, L, H) are also lit, but the word "Fuel Door" does not light up. There is also no indicator light for low fuel.
If the other guages are backlit properly, perhaps the illumination bulbs have just burned out for the left side of the cluster.
I guess I just did not understand that the "Fuel Door Open" does not get a light eventhough it is in the dash. Also, the graphics for the four items look like they could be backlit in the event of a problem (over temp, no oil pressure, overheat, or out of fuel).
Thanks; if anyone else's is different, feel free to jump in.
"Fuel Door" should have a triangle next to it. This indicates to the driver which side of the vehicle the fuel door is on so he doesn't have to guess when he stops to get gas. It doesn't serve any other purpose.
I guess the Ford engineers really don't give much credit to the owners; you'd think that after one fill-up they'd remember which side of the vehicle the door is on...
There's no low fuel or fuel door switch, and it takes an extra module to make the oil light come on, which I think was ONLY used in '87-88. I don't think a TEMP light was ever used on '87-96 trucks.
Thanks posters, it is good to know that all is well. I had so many problems with a dealer during one visit of warranty work, I just can't bring myself to trust any of their past work.
Also it's that same cluster for many different vehicle from what I can tell, the Aerostar, Econoline and F-series all appear to use the same cluster, and the Aerostar even has a light for Low Oil level.
