Lost the oem alternator on thursday, Just finished putting in NEW 130amp, got 14.6 going into battery, hooked up plow went to lift and it shorted out.
Any help would be great.
What brand of alt did you put on? Sounds like you lost the diode bridge. You may have to go to an alternator shop not a parts store to get one that is heavy duty. You don't nesscarily need a high amp alt but one with heavy duty diodes.
What year is the truck. ok see it is an 01. Its under warranty try another. If same thing happens then you need to go to a real auto electrical shop. The reviews on this alternator show several out of the box being bad.

Yes 01 173000, I did try another, it is working, I did not plug in the plow,I did run the plow motor with the battery charger and it worked, how ever it was drawing 280 amps, fisher docs say it should be around 190 @ 1750 psi so I think the motor may be going. off to the shop tomorrow.
Update: replaced plow motor, put 180 amp fuse inline of plow, snapped instantly, alt ok,( best 3.99 I have spent so far) had battery tested, bad cell. New 875 Napa battery all working fine now, saving plow motor for spare.
