Okay, since it has been converted to 4x4 I don't trust the Axle or Trans codes. Based on Allison material, I believe I have a AT650 5 speed.
Based on a vin decode that NumberDummy did for another member, here is what I come up with:
1974 C750 tild cab, 391 4v, Kentucky plant, 1974.
153" wheelbase, black HD vinyl, regular cab. Ignoring trans and axle.
23000 GVW Max Buffalo NY DSO, special ordered.
The Vol. Fire Dept. that I purchased it from had just gone through the brakes and put new Michelin XZY3 tires on!
V08543 = 1975 / 1975 serial number range: U80,001-X60,000.
153" Wheelbase.
C753 = C750 Tilt Cab, 23,000 lbs. GVWR
4A8: 4A = Black Vinyl H/D-Full Width Seat / 8 = 91A Standard Cab.
HQM: HQ = Eaton model 17121 Rear Axle / 7.17-1 / 18,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity / M = Ford 7,000 lbs. Capacity Front Axle with P/S.
23,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
120559:
12 = Buffalo NY Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
0559 = Domestic Special Order number, which applies to both the following:
*No COLOR code: Truck painted a non standard color per original purchasers order.
*No TRANS code: Truck was ordered without a transmission, then sent out by FoMoCo after it left the assembly line to have the 4WD conversion performed.
Thanks ND! I don't have the truck home yet and the axle tags were covered in multiple layers of paint so I don't have a clue yet. I've read on Pirate 4x4 that the front drive axle could be Marmon Herrington? I also saw a 74 Ford school bus that was 4x4 and it came with a MH front drive axle and a Rockwell rear...
WOOHOO!!! Snow from yesterday shut us down at work today... the only logical thing to do was to pick up my C750! Topped off the fluids and drove her home without any issues. Didn't really expect problems as the truck was in service just two years ago.
Positively identified the front as a NAPCO 11000 Model 11,000# front assy.
The trans was also confirmed, Allison MT650 5-speed auto.
The rear is the Eaton that Ford installed at the factory.
Still unsure of the transfer case but I assume it to be a NAPCO as well.
I guess NAPCO used Rockwell front and transfer case, the Rockwell logo is cast in several places on each. The front outers have Spicer cast into the caps...
