I have a 1989 Ford F-150 and it is running a 5.0L F.I. w/ aod tranny and was curious if i can swap the 5.0 to an older 351w without changin the tranny? The motor is an older police interceptor motor that I got from a wrecked police bronco.
If anyone could help me its much appreciated.
The best thing to do is measure the bolt pattern from each motor and the bell housing. It should be ok. Don't snip off any of your electrical connections and mark them so you know what they are for. There are a few other guys out there who could give you a lot more info on the subject, but at least you can get started until they respond.. Talk to you later.... Good luck....
thanks guys any help is good help, but what i really need to know is will the transmission where it is electronicly controlled work with a carburated engine.
The AOD is not electronically controlled so there will be no problems. If you go to a carbed intake you will need a few linkage parts, I can give you the part numbers if needed. If staying injected it's a staight up swap physically except for the electronics, which I know very little about.
It could be an AODE which was later made into the 4R70/4R70W, or it could be and E40D, look at the tranny pan and tell us how big it is and how many bolts?
Let me know how it went. I'm considering that sawp as well . I'm just not sure about the harness and other related wiring.
I even entertained the idea of swapping to a 351M/C6 combo. Went as far as buying the motor and trans out of a '78. Everyone (locally) said it would be a wiring nightmare going to carb, plus I only have one of the frame (riser) mounts. So now I'm thinking of selling that one and getting a 351W.
thanx guys that finually answered my question, sorry to be such a pain in the *** but, thank you guys alot for the help. 90f150moneypit, email me please and could you tell me where you were talking about the linkage for the carb/efi swap?
