I changed mine at a little over 4,000 miles, but that was the oil that came in the truck from the dealership, and had been in the truck close to a year. From here on out it will be on a 5k OCI, with Rotella T6 (5W40) and Motorcraft filters. I could probably be okay with a 7,500 mile or longer OCI with the T6, but I'll stick with changing every 5K.As far as break in oil, as someone else had mentioned, that's really a thing of the past, I know alot of folks that still change their initial oil early, peace of mind I guess, and old habits are hard to break.
Your money, your truck. Not trying to talk you into or out of anything.
I did figure out that it is about $700 more over 100000 miles to change oil every 5000 vs every 7500 (roughly the computer average) - based on $100 per oil change. That comes out to $.007 per mile extra. I see guys spending $700 and a whole lot more on vanity/appearance accessories.
I'll do my first one when the truck tells me to. With oil changes costing anywhere from $80-$100 (depending if oil is on sale), I'm going to get as much out of it as Fords computer will allow.
Haha, no. Down here in the south the pollen from pine trees will clog up just about anything. It'll clog gutters if there is a screen filter in the way...
So...do folks know that current model year Chevy Z06 has factory-required oil change at 500 miles?
Apparently this was implemented after a bunch of (warranty) replacements of nearly new dry sump lubricated motors. People reported finding silver colored shavings in the oil filter after these 500 mile oil changes.
I still DON'T KNOW if an early change for the 6.7L is helpful or detrimental. I did my change as indicated by Oil Life Monitor thingie. I'm for saving resources and I also read that some folks reported ticking that came on after early oil changes. But this could be anecdotal.

This is the actual letter, only applies to the dry sump systems of the 2014/2015 Corvettes for the reason given!
2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes – Additional Required Maintenance..

2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes – Additional Required Maintenance
The following message only applies to dry sump Corvettes that have not had their first oil change performed.
Some 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes may experience a condition that leads to oil leaking out from the air cleaner assembly. This condition may be caused by running the engine continuously at a high engine speed with the first factory fill oil, resulting in silicone sealants in the engine’s gaskets degrading the oil’s anti-foaming agents. The oil foam has no effect on the engine’s durability.
Effective Immediately:
GM is changing the required maintenance schedule for all 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with dry sump systems. The new schedule will require the oil/filter be changed immediately after the break-in period, which occurs after the first 500 miles of operation. Once the break-in oil change is performed and the Oil Life Monitoring system is reset, customers should follow the Oil Life Monitoring system for all future oil change needs.
The 2nd printing of the 2015 Owner Manuals is being updated with this change. These manuals will not be in the glove box material until January 2015. For vehicles produced before this change, and for all vehicles going forward, it is important to notify the customers that a change has been made, and they will need to have the vehicle’s oil changed after the break-in period. Copies of the new maintenance grid will be available on GMPROGRAMINFO.com, under Chevrolet, Resources.
As you are aware, all 2014/2015 Corvettes come with Chevrolet Complete Care which covers 2 years/24,000 miles of select required maintenance. Previously, up to 4 service events were allowed under the program guidelines in the 2-year/24,000-mile period. With the change in the maintenance schedule being effective immediately, an additional oil change allowance will be added to 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes, increasing the amount of coverage to 2 years/24,000 miles, up to 5 service events.
Please make sure all dealership personnel are aware of this change.

It is relevant in context of the oft repeated wisdom that "modern engines do not need early oil change". This here GM provides a striking counter example in as modern an engine as it gets. So, are mfgs kowtowing to EPA in recommending remarkably long first oil change interval?
Suppose there is a small, but real probability of problems that will result in warranty repair. Well, if the cost of those repairs is less than the cost of pissing of EPA, the mfg will eat the cost vs recommending a more conservative oil change. In GM Z06 case the financial math didn't work out and out comes the TSB.
I think my truck had 500 miles or so on it before it's 1st oil change
It did have a birthday on the dealers lot though
I believe book said something about at least every 12 mo. change oil
It cost me $75 but what the heck
I ve heard guys at the strip changing the oil at only at 1/4 to half mile intervals to be sure of getting rid of contaminates. I think oil can never be clean enough. Just my .02
