Delete rear muffler?

My new to me MY 1990 with 351W has the original exhaust system.(It's running perfect now BTW)

I have always heard the rear muffler after the cat was like a cork for these motors.

If i just remove the rear muffler after the cat, w/o doing anything else is there a power gain?

I did this to my 1994 w a 351W and it seems to run a little bit better even with over twice the miles on it.

Does anyone have dyno results/data on this simple modification?

Thanks in advance -Matt

if the system is in fact stock (original) the Cat converter will have far more restrictions than the muffler. most cats are done at 100k miles.
if you want an exhaust upgrade, shortie headers, new y pipe, hi flow cat and muffler of your choice. run 2.5" for the y pipe and 3" for the rest of the exhaust.

What manufacturer do you guys recommend (price is also a key component)
to do this?

I want to free up the exhaust first, I tow pretty regularly with this truck for work and play so the more power out of my 351 the better.

a good quality set of shorty headers, Bassani Y pipe or have a shop build one (2.5" diam mandrel bent tubing). Hi flow cat (Magnaflow or ??). Run 3" exhaust from the y to the muffler of your choice then out staying 3".

talk to a few muffler shops for quotes. I got my whole exhaust done for about $350, I supplied the Hooker Aerochamber muffler which I am very happy with. no drone in the cab.
