Glove Box Data Plate info

I had to purchase a new data plate for the glove box of my '48 F-6. Besides the VIN or Engine serial number, what goes in the 3 boxes for model? The F6 is already designated.

Thanks!

F6 is the series. The model stamping will include information about year, engine and series. In the example below, it's for a '49 F1 V8 truck, model 9RC. 9 being the year code for 49-50, R is the engine code for the 239 V8, and C is the model designation for F1.

For your truck, being an F6, there should be 4 boxes that read 8_TH, with the blank space being your engine code.

OK so 8 being the year, R being the 239 V8, and TH. So what does TH stand for? Part of what I like about restoring old tractors and trucks are the things you learn while restoring them.

Thank-You for your help!

That is NOT correct!!!!! what is the wheel base of your truck???

For example, my F5 is a 158" WB so mine is 9R8T

OK, I looked back at your truck, it looks like it WAS about a 158" WB which would have been 9R8TH, but of course you have shortened it. I don't what the current WB is, but the short WB F6 was 134" and for that the code would be 9RTH.

According to Van Pelt Ford used the 9 for MODEL identification for all the F1-F6 trucks from 48 through 50

I want to get this right, so please bear with me.
So even though it's a '48 it still starts with a 9
It has the V8 so R
Then the last 2 digits could be 8TH if it was 158" OR 5TH if it was 176"
If I'm reading the chart correctly.
So I will measure the wheel base, not sure why I haven't before, and then add the 51" that I shortened it and see where this all lands.

The reason for picking 51" ('cause I know you want to know) was that I used the front spring hangers as the rear, so I didn't have to re bolt them. Seems to have worked well. More pictures to follow of the new body.

Seriously Thank you!
The charts are most helpful.

NO, VanPelt's info is incorrect for 48 trucks. I contacted him years ago with photocopies of the correct info and he still uses the 49 numbers for 48.

A 1948 F6 model should be 8R8TH for 158" wb (8RTH for 134" F6)

photobucket flipped the photo - hope this helps

I assume you still have the shackle at the rear, tho?

OK, thanks for clarifying that. I've never seen anyone else list the model codes, so I just stuck with his.

Ross, those are the "Parts Catalog Model Symbols" Not the same as the Model as used on the Rating plates.

Well thanks to ALL of you.

Ross- absolutely the shackles are on the rear. But Henry got it right all 4 spring hangers are the same part number. I thought it was a pretty easy job.

Also keep in mind the model designations Ross shows are for 51/52

The first 2/3s of the 48 year there was no D code for F2s. They were Ys along with F3s and didn't change until something like serial number 110,000

The above copy is from the 1948 Operator's Manual. It has info the Shop manual (49-51/52 supplement) doesn't have.
