I have a 51 f-1 all stock flat head and I seem to be have an issue with my carb. I had it rebuilt, and now to keep it from hesitating when I give it gas under load I have to have both fuel mixture screws all most all the way out. I don't think it should be that way. Any help woul be great.
Welcome. I see you live in Virginia. As a result, I assume you don't get to drive your truck 365 days a year? I'll share the point I'm trying to make in just a second. Next, I'm going to assume the carb was rebuilt before it was parked for the winter? And I'm gonna assume it ran just fine before you parked it last fall? If the answer to all three of those questions are yes, take about 20 minutes and clean the carb. Just take your time and pay attention to how it is assembled. It's really simple, and you'll enjoy it. Three simple nuts hold it on the intake. Unhook the choke cable, throttle linkage, vacuum advance line, and the fuel line, and you'll be able to take that baby off the engine and have all kinds of fun. Gotta love that ethanol gas.......
Doc- thanks the reply...I have had the issue since the carb was rebuilt. I have run Sta-bil in the tank since I have owned the truck. It's weird...it starts, ideals and runs fine, I just don't think the mixture screws should be that far out.
