Man o man. Every time i see the news there is something else wrong with Houstons police. I just saw on the news this morning about police brutality. I recently got out of the Army, 3yrs. I was set on joining the HPD, until all of this stuff started. Now I'm embarrassed for having that idea. I will still look for a civil-service job(Constables office), but for now Ill just stay working for Kroger, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
The Texas Highway Patrol is currently looking for men to replace retiring officers. They are taking aps now for their 6-month school. You might give them a call. Good luck.
Dono
Really, it is 6 months? Info on this is hard to find on their web site. I also wanted to be a Highway Patrol officer, but thought that their school was a full year plus a year of probation. That was my only deterrent. Ill have to call someone to inquire. Thanks for the info!
HPD has over 3000 officers, serving the 4th largest city in the U.S. It is unrealistic of you to think that all of them are going to be perfect, or that (like all employers) they would not have a percentage of unsavory or less than perfect people... perhaps it's the people they deal with on a daily basis that causes them to lose sight of their duty? It doesn't appear that you have worked in law enforcement yet... I'd wait before you pass judgement on those that are. The fact that the few discretions that have occured have come to light and freely relayed to the public in the press is a credit to the fine officers of HPD, or any department.
