Whats the issue

Ive got a 93 f150 4x4 short box. It being a 4x4 ive got 33x12.50 tires and of course they are mud grips. Its a 302 with an AOD. Its sluggish and there is a pop in the front end. I dont know whats wrong with it any suggestions will be appreciated.

Big tires and a 5.0L engine are not good combinations. The engine has very little low end torque as it comes from the factory. I assume the truck has been this way since you installed those taller and wider tires?

Have any parts been replaced recently?

Any idea what the gear ratio is? Check the door jamb sticker for the axle code, we can decode it for you.

As far as the popping in the front end goes..when do you hear the noise? Cruising/turning/braking/bumps????

The axle code is h92. I bought the truck as is. I did some modification to the TB and thats about it. As far as i know the gear ratio is stock. As for the popping, it pops all but when im cruising. I think it might be the inner bearing.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....a truck with factory limited slip front axle!

H9 = 3.55 Limited slip rear axle

the 2 denotes the front axle is also limited slip.

3.55 is a decent ratio if you have stock size tires and and engine with decent low end torque. Your 5.0L engine is not optimum for a truck, especially one with 33" tall tires.

Without being there to hear the noise, it's touch to give much more of an opinion your noise. You might try pulling the hubs off for a look-see for damage or signs of the root cause. Could be the axle outer u-joint they tend to be neglected.

Modification to the TB? I assume Throttlebody? Don't tell me you installed a spacer or air raid device....pure junk.

I didnt put a spacer. I have good enough high end torque dont need the spacer. There is a rod that connects the butterfly and the throttle spring. I bent the rod just a touch so the throttlebody would get more air there for more power... It worked but now i get maybe 8 miles to the gallon. Is there anyway i can improve my truck? Please help me

When you bent that rod it changed the relationship between the TPS and the butterfly and probably the O2 sensor. It may be getting more air, but it is also calling for more fuel thus the 8MPG.

Bending that rod will not add anything. It will not affect the TPS setting or the O2 sensor readings. It's an effective net zero gain. I suspect your perceived power increase is causing your foot to dip into the throttle more, hence the resulting decrease in fuel economy.

When was the truck tuned up last?

Have you checked for codes?

HAHA! If I would have written my complete thought it would have made more sense! I meant to say the relationship between the accelerator pedal and the TPS and so on. That's what I get for trying so be cute!

There isnt much increase in power. My foot stays light on the throttle. The truck has 252,594 miles on it and its its got new plugs, cap, and coil. Ive never checked for codes. The engine is tired. What would best help the truck?

There is zero increase in power...it's all in your head. Sorry, just being brutally honest.

What about new plug wires?

Bump the base timing from 10 BTDC to 12-14. It may take a few tries to hit the sweet spot for your combination.

Check for codes....run the Key One Engine Off (KOEO) tests and stored codes (Continuous Memory) display.

List the codes you received, by number, and during which test they were displayed. Be aware your truck may display two or three digit codes. Be careful if you are counting flashes to get the codes.

This is just to get a baseline of what you are starting with.

Warmup the engine then do this: http://oldfuelinjection.packrad.net/page13.html

Or purchase a code reader such as the Equus/Innova 3145

Does that mean you got the System Pass Code of 11 or 111

Or you did not get any codes?

If it is the latter that means your code check is invalid.
