Whoah, there is a much easier method to find the source of the noise, a hose, yes a hose. Grab a chunk of hose, 4-5' long of something like heater hose. Place one end to your ear and move the other around potential sources for the noise. You'll be amazed how well this works, how well it pinpoints sources of noises and transfers it to your ear. Most of all given what is already posted check around the under side of the exhaust manifold.
Well, wouldn't you know it. When it came time to use the video, the battery was dead.............
I did use the end of a 2' broom stick and could not isolate the noise.
While the camera battery was charging, I took off the exhaust manifold, it sure looked like it was leaking on the backside, a lot of black soot near cyl #1 & 2.
I took the manifold to the shop and had the flange side machined for a flat surface, bought a new gasket and doughnut. I decided not to install the heat shield.
I bolted everything up nice and tight and it still makes that same noise.
Today, I'll get a video of it.
When you increase rpm's the noise becomes very faint.
Any thoughts what I should be checking. I'm very confused!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a little help today from a friend who by the way smoked, so I was able to use his cigarette to find a smoke trail from a leaky exhaust.
When I placed the smoldered cigarette near Cyl #2, to my surprise I saw the smoke bouncing from an exhaust leak between the head and exhaust manifold down near the spark plug.
I'm not gonna take the head off to plane it but would like to use a thicker gasket.
Who makes a thicker gasket, will 2 gaskets work or would it leak between the 2 or is there a header gasket that fits????
You could try two gaskets but it might be to thick... And you could endup cracking the manifold... Call summit racing . See if they can recommend a gasket that might work...Also try loosening and retorqueing the manifold..Another option you can try a header the flange on them tend to flex a little more than cast ones
On my 69 Mustang with a 351 Cleveland, I use a set of Sanderson Shorty headers and no gaskets per the Mfg. I use Permatex® Ultra Black® Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker.
Do you think it would work if I get a new gasket then apply the permatex to both sides of it??
Remflex looks like a good product 100% guaranteed, but at $68.00 inc. shipping.
Sure would like to buy it, but I think I'll look around at the local Part Stores and see what I can find. Either some sort of Copper gasket or a gasket with Copper Silicone.

Depends on what your time is worth, and good dead soft copper gaskets aren't cheap either, nor do they work as well, many are reusable though.
But, IDK where you are but if you have a local supplier that has them or can get them from a company like Competition Specialties that's a better way to go. Remflex gaskets can't be bent, they will break. So shipping can be risky, better to buy a set off the shelf where you can see them before laying down the money. I find it's also generally cheaper.
