Just a question about the distance from the center of the goose neck ball to the back of the cab with 8 foot bed and 6ft 8 inch bed with the 5th wheel Prep Package. On other trailer towing forums there is much discussion concerning need for a slider 5th wheel hitch when you choose a shorter bed. In fact the question should be, is the centerline of the hitch more than 4 foot (half the width of the trailer) from the cab? Since the center of the hitch needs to be in front of the rear axle, the wheelbase and the placement of the bed relative to the axle makes all the difference
Okay! After my long winded posted question I guess what I am really asking is, on a short bed 6ft 8 inches, what is the distance from the centerline of the axle to the cab?

Here's a thread I posted some time back. You can see the brackets made for my truck that align the position of the rails for the 5th wheel hitch. I really takes the guesswork out of this process.
Thanks guys. I have found the answer to my question at another site.
The answer is, cab to axle dimension for 8 foot bed is 55.4 inches. The cab to axle dimension for "standard" 6 ft 8 in bed is 41.5 inches.
