Been a long time since I've been on this site I've been working on the Model A project and missed you guys. Went on Ford Barn and they a restoration only and as some of you know I tend to be on the dark side. No more Ford Barn 2x, the site was bought out by HAMB and those guys are not as friendly as this site is. I'm going to sneak in a question about the A because I know some of you have them. I know this is kind of against the rules but, here goes. Any suggestions on removing the body off the frame? It's a five window coupe and I'm concerned the top will wrap if I lift it from top as there's big hole in the roof. I'd post pics but the moderators won't appreciate that. Great to back on this site....still trying to find a site for Model A's as good as FTE. Don't think I will. Thanks in advance. Dean

You could get by posting pictures of a Model A, after all, its a Ford ain't it.
what if you used some cross bars or spreader bars through the windows to keep the lift straps from squeezing in on the body.
I know what you mean about the HAMB. There are a lot of great people over there but there are also tons of a**holes that would rather call you names then give and helpful advice.

The floor behind the seat is completely gone, rusted out as well. I got a lot of too nice to rod, hope you won't rod it, from Ford Barn. The plan is to keep it stock outside with modern drive train and suspension. I want to enjoy driving it, just like the way I did the F-1. Body comes off next. Got a new frame for it with a slight kick up in the back to lower it a bit. IFS is front, triangulated four link in the back. Should keep me busy for years.LOL

If your afraid it's going to buckle, Hell depending on type of cab it is, then why not build a frame inside the cab like your going to chop the top and lift it from the cab support frame... it will keep the door opening where it is and allow support for the whole cab.
Model A bodies are lighter than one of our cabs, two fairly fit guys should be able to lift a stripped body off the frame. Unless the wood is all dry rotted, picking it up with a couple wide straps thru the window openings should not damage it.

Welcome back! I just finished a 1929 Model A Special coupe. Rat rodded it, and 4 of us had no problem lifting the body off the frame for media blasting and epoxy priming.
I love model 'A's. I removed a 29 body by myself (the one pictured in my avatar) back in the 80s and put it on a Progressive Automotive frame. I jacked it up with bumper jacks and 4x4s on both sides under the body and rolled the old frame out from under. No damage done to the body at all.
The last time I removed a model A body was 35 years ago! I am pretty sure that I did it as Vern indicated. I had both a 30 coupe and a 31 Vicky that I removed/replaced on original frames. I would not have lifted it thru the door opening.
