Hi guys, I have been searching for a while and I cannot seem to find a push bar that actually looks like to would take a hit from anything. I found the ones the bolt to the bumper but that's it and don't really want to pay 200 bucks for crap that wont hold up. Anyone have a frame mounted bar or have plans to build one? I can weld and cut metal so building one isn't an issue. I just want something that looks nice and will hold up.
That's why I wanted something to mount to the back side of the bumper or the frame, so if I hit a deer it wont get pushed back into the grill or dent the bumper.

That said, this may be an option if a bit ungainly.
For real though, I don't think there is anything with a stock bumper that will do what you want. All "push bars" are for looks except purpose built type on a solid bumper.

Hahaha! nice one! I was mainly looking for what you all have done besides the junky bumper mount ones.
I just have a cheesy brush guard on my truck for now and it has survived a 50mph head on with a whitetail buck. Only I can tell that the passenger side got moved back a quarter of an inch.
Tom I am not really looking for a solid bumper. But looking at the way the bumper is mounted today i realized it is nothing like my 94 (which i built a nice bar for) it looks like my only options are bumper mount or a solid bumper. What a crappy design.
Another question, What have you all done as far as headache racks rollbars? I don't really want spend 800 bucks on something for show or that wont let me use my tool box, anyone built one around a crossover box?
i make my racks. i do not rely on them for roll over protection, they are only for mounting my light bars.
1 inch square tube for the bar, and 2 inch angle iron for the mounts. weld the tube bar to the angle iron, and then bolt the angle to the bed rails.
Haven't found much to stop this yet. And as far as the stock, ole boy was right about the tin foil idea. If you want a backbone to it you'll jus have to build something to your style
The factory bumper can be used for tackling a trash can and that's about it. It's really just for looks when it comes to anything more than a minor hit...it's WAY better than plastic bumpers on new cars and the .001" thick steel bumpers on newer trucks, but still not all that great. Now if you just want to push a non running vehicle around the yard or something it can do that just fine, I've done it plenty of times with my stock bumper. But if I were to actually hit something than the winch mount would be what takes the hit. It's 1/4" steel bolted to the frame, and I don't think the frame would like that too much... I'd probably be looking at a new frame or new truck.
