Hi guys. Got a driveway that needs tons and tons of rock, (started reshaping the drive many years ago as it humped in the middle and angled and drained most of the drive to the garage). My wife has gotten tired of the mud drive way and has told me to get it finished this coming spring. I have talked her into letting me buy a dump truck. Here is what I have found. A 76 F350 for $1500. Problem, fuel pump is out. I have done several things to temporarily run a truck, such as fill the bowl with gas and setup an old lawn mower gas tank to the fuel pump. My problem is I want to check that the dump works and don't think that putting gas in carb will let me do that. I can probably get my hands on a gas tank for a boat to use but how do I get the fuel to the carb with out a fuel pump?..
If you get the tank above the carb you can gravity feed the bowls. You would need a decently sized fuel line and a way to prime it as well. A small boat tank should work nicely.
Just bring a buddy along and have them squeeze the primer bulb (on the OB tank) on occasion if you can't get it gravity fed. I did that once, worked great for the intended purpose (just turning the rig around in the driveway).
Yes x2 on just have a buddy (that is experienced) hand trickle the fuel into the carb and keep it running (by hand working the throttle), as you run the dump.
Probably need a high idle/RPM (a good stream of fuel) to get the PTO to make enough hyd pressure?
A big water bottle with the sport bottle cap works great, if not a sports bottle cap just knife a small hole in a reg cap.
But be advised, great way to have a back fire and a big carb fire if done wrong. I'd have a old blanket or jacket handy to smother it, just in case.
I have sat on a inner fenderwell with the hood up and did it for a short test drive in a cow pasture once. Ah the joys of youth...lol.
