Exclamation HELP/Advice: Thinking on purchasing a 2007 Escape XLT V6 non-hybrid

Happy belated new year to all...! I am thinking on buying a 2007 Escape, low miles on, V6 4WD non-hybrid version, the XLT, as an additional car for my wife (a small SUV, that is). I've heard that the main issues with this rig is low MPGs and stability concerns. I was considering an early 2000's Explorer too, but reviews on that one seem not to be as good, let alone the size... What should I keep in mind when considering a 1st gen. Escape!, thank you. I have been a full-size Bronco owner twice, BTW. Thank you all in advance...

If you can keep the speed below 70mph or 113kph, you can expect mileage in the mid 20's. The AWD or 4WD will get a bit less. I am not aware of stability problems, but do not go off-roading with my 07 FWD. It has gotten as high as 28mpg, but that was cruising on the freeway with a pretty constant speed of ~64-65mph. The style tire fitted also will affect fuel mileage.(and noise)

Our 06 gets @ 22-23 in the summer and @19 in the winter with mixed driving. 2006 xlt awd v6 with all terrain tires. Only issue is a recent trans slip that has developed, about 140k on the clock

Biggest issue with mine was wheel bearings the original fronts had 140,000 miles and one started to howl. I replaced them not a bad job. Had to do the driver side a few months ago 194,000 miles on it now still going strong. In 2008 FORD did a minor redesign one the body and ran that till 2012.
