#1) my truck doesn't have any tail/brake lights on it right now and the previous owner told me they only had tail/brake light on 1 side of the truck, if that is true was it on the Drivers or passenger side??
#2) the previous owner converted it to 12 volt electric but the gauges have not been hooked up yet, if I try hooking them up will I fry them out with 12 volts or do I need to find different gauges (I want to keep it stock looking, I don't like the digital dashes or the add on gauge clusters you hang under the dash)
#3) any tips on where I can find replacement windsheild & vent windows?
this is my first project (as if you couldn't tell) so any help would be greatly appreciated

wellcome to fte, you will find that these are a great bunch of guys, whth a lot of info.
a 50 should have two tial lights, round i think. they did not have the shield looking ligths until 53.
right the orig. gauges can't take 12 volt. you can get a voltage step down kit for the gauges from dennis carpenter.
you can get windshield and vent window from same people
glad to have you on board, don't let the hot roders drag you over to the dark side, keep it stock.
Dale, It will remain as stock as I can keep it (it already has a '66 289 & auto trans) but I want to keep the rest stock.....(now if I can only decide on a decent stock looking color)
thanks again, Jeff
you have a choose of black, black, black, or black. just kidding, i am not sure what the factory colors were. you can paint it any color and still be considered stock. my 49 is bright red, but i call it a stock truck because it is still a flatty.
The '50s also had the tiny rear windows. It was the 51 model year (trucks made in late 1950 and early 51) that they changed to a larger window.
Jeff,
Just like the windsheild wipers, outside mirrors and sun visors, the taillights were standard only on the driver's side. That taillight had the license plate bracket and a clear bottom that lighted the rear plate.

John, Thanks for the tip on the wiper/mirror/tailights
I was suprised to see that the vacum wiper motor actuall worked on this when I got it home...
thanks for all the tips so far

Have fun with your new truck and welcome to this bunch. Thanks for putting up some pictures. And for the rest of you guys who don't have anything in your gallery, get busy!!
Your stock colors could have been: Vermillion (red), Raven Black, Palisade Green, Meadow Green, Sheridan Blue, Silvertone Gray, Birch Gray, Dover Gray, Sunland Beige, and Primer. If you want numbers on any of those colors, let me know.
The number on the Sheridan Blue is M-14285 Which the link below shows the same as Colony blue for 1949 and appears to be very dark.

the electrical in the truck was converted to 12 volts as I said, all he changed we the bulbs in the dash, it the new sending units for the 12 volt gauge cluster he installed under the dash (sunpro)
I know I need the voltage step down kit for the dash gauges but will I have to swap out the sending units for the oil & Temp???
2nd, the dash lights are turned on via a toggle switch under the dash, is that standard?? also this swith turns on the small marker lights at the top of the grill, they don't come on with the headlights, again is that the way it was???
thanks again for everyones help
Some guys place individual runtz voltage regulators on each gauge. I went a different route and placed one voltage regulator in the power line that went to all gauges. Purchased it at Hot Rod and Custom Supply, Coral Gables, FL
The toggle switch is stock - turns on/off the dash lights. It should not turn off the parking lamps.
However the parking lamps come on with the tail lights when the headlight switch is pulled out half way. When it is pulled out all the way the headlights come on and the front parking lights go out.
