In Fords the centrifugal weights, springs are buried under the breaker plate. Makes it a pain to adjust.

You can open the gap to .045" or .050" but make damn sure the plugs and wires and everything is in good shape, especially with an old-school cap. Remember when HEI systems debuted the diameter and size of the cap increased so they are farther apart. Dielectric grease in the boots helps too.

Actually now that I remember what I was reading is a couple guys wanted to use the whole TFI dist and module in older small block applications in which case there will be no advance because the puter controls all of it from the hall effect trigger I believe. In my case there should still be advance correct? as the module is simply replacing the points and capacitor in the system the gap is only to act as the trigger for the module to fire. Seems to work so far for my application no more than I have had to drive it.

69 cj do you by any chance have a part # for the Petronic's that you put in your FE ??/ And do you know if this would be the same unit for a Duraspark Dizzie as a points Dizzie ??/

For a single point Ford distributor, probably something like 1957-1973 use 1281 module. Some vendors will put more numbers on that part #. I've used one for almost 20 years. You can call them if you have questions or want to be sure.

No I don't. As stated thats been over 10 years ago. Once in a blue moon I'll lift the cap and check the rotor/cap buttons. Go to their website. Single points Fords are basically all the same.

The computer control systems can't advance the ignition timing, only pull it back. Thus, the distributor (or cam sensor) is installed with the advance the system will require.

Your system should be using a low power switch (breaker points) to trigger a high power switch (module). All of your distributor advance functions control that low power switch.
