gearshift stuck in drive
Today I experienced a tightness in shifting out of Park and when I got my '97 Expedition home I tried to find out what the problem was and now the gearshift only moves between Drive , 2, and 1. I checked the shift interock fuse and found it be fine. It almost feels as though there is an obstruction preventing the normal movement but I found nothing of the sort as I checked under the dash. (BTW, I am depressing the brake pedal as I attempt to shift.) Any suggestions? The "Owner's Guide" doesn't help much at all. Thanks. Alan in Vegas

Follow your linkage all the way to the tranny. See if you have an abnormal looking bend or if something is stuck between the linkage and another component. I had a Bronco many years ago that had a similar problem. Turned out to be a $2.00 linkage part just inside the tranny had broken. Wound up costing me $52.00 to have fixed with labor and part.
